Improved iCloud Drive and Document Picker

Apple introduced iCloud Drive and Document Picker in iOS 8 which allowed users to access files and created using other apps. Apple was repentance to bring desktop-like file management cleverness to iOS. Most apple users are thrilled when Apple included an app for iCloud Drive but treir agitation was short lived as wasn’t file manager.

In iOS 9 compared to Finder in OS X. iOS 9 thankfully allows us to save or attach any type of file in emails. In you save your attachment when tapping on done button it doesn’t save the attachment have to use export to this location to save an attachment.

use the “Export to this location” to navigate to the directory because that very cumbersome and non-intuitive opening files from another app and use the iPad Pro as a replacement for my MacBook Pro also can’t rename files in iOS.

Here are some of the features that iOS 10 will bring to iCloud Drive and Document Picker:

  • Make folders based on the type of document accessible by apps that support that document type, instead of having app-specific folders. That would reduce the need to export files to another app folder and greatly reduce the unnecessary duplication of files.
  • Open a file in iCloud Drive using another app supports that file type like as “Open With” feature in Finder in OS X.
  • It would reduce the complexity of exporting files to the app’s folder and then opening it from within the app.
  • Ability to rename files.
  • A column view for the iPad as imagined by Federico Viticci in his awesome iOS 10 Wishlist Concept video.
  • The ability to share photos, videos, and links to any other app without developer having to implement the feature. It’s great idea behind the Share and Action extensions in iOS 8 but it has taken a long time for developers to add support for it. It should be available natively as part of the operating system like Android.
  • Can to view deleted and previous versions of our files for 30 days like Dropbox.
